Tents/Tarps/Shelters/Bivys
______________________________________________________________
Tents are surprisingly easy to care for. Here are some simple tips for successful maintenance to ensure your tent lasts a really long time.
Do not store a tent wet. If it is wet after a trip set it up sponge it out with water and allow it to dry.
Don't wash in a washing machine or dry in a dryer.
Don't fold your fly (we stuff everything). Creases are in the same place every time and that is where leaks develop.
Store tents with zippers unzipped. Stuffed tents put pressure on zippers when zipped up.
Set a tent up in the shade if possible. UV degrades the tent.
Dont force poles or zippers.
Use footprints or tarps under the tent floor unless camping on snow or some other mild surface.
If sea kayaking or camping near the beach wash tent poles and tent in fresh water. Dried salt is crystaline and can damage tent fabric when stuffed and corrode tent poles.
